Mothers Day (a tad early)

"All that I am or hope to be I owe to my angel mother" - Abraham Lincoln

I was doing some reminiscing today which lead me to the writing of this post...
As I stand before my students, I often find myself saying things my mother use to say to me. As a teacher I also find myself often thinking about how I would handle certain situations if I had a child of my own.  I then immediately find myself thinking back to my childhood and remembering so many different situations and how my parents handled them.
My parents would be the first to tell you that they were not perfect.  I am sure they would tell you they made mistakes.  But every time I look back at my childhood and at my parents I am in awe. How blessed I am! However  today I would like to talk about my mom. My mom is truly an amazing woman.  Today I would like to share with you just a few of many things that made a impact upon  as a child.
1. She is  hardworking.
2. She is never too busy for me.
3. She is tender and compassionate.
4. She has a real walk with God.

As a child, my mom worked a part time job.  After a busy day in the office she would come home prepare delicious meals as well as cleaning and everything else that comes along with the taking care of three little girls.  Although she was crazy busy.  She was never too busy for me.  Some of my favorite memories simply include my mommy playing with me.  I don't know if she remembers but one time she let me get up after lights out and we went outside and played hide and seek in our pajamas!  I'm sure that night she was exhausted. I'm sure the last thing she wanted to do was run around outside, but she did.  I remember my mom catching lightning bugs with me.  I remember my mom playing with my easy bake oven with me.  I recall my mother reading bed time stories to me every night.  So many little things that she probably things I don't remember   But those little things made all the difference.  Those little things showed me she cared.
I've heard people say you shouldn't let your children see you cry.  Well, I've seen my mother cry countless times.  Every one of the tears taught me something.  At times she cried when I did wrong which taught my sin hurt both God and my mom, and how I tried not to hurt her again.  At times she cried when I succeeded and then I didn't understand why mommy's cried when they were happy.  But now I understand. I learned through those tears that my mommy loved me so dearly that sometimes those emotions simply bubble out in tears.  I remember her crying sometimes as she read me stories from the Bible.  These tears taught me that my mommy not only loved me but she also loved God.  They told me that more than anything she wanted me to serve God with my life.  Because of some of mom's tears at a young age I promised myself I never wanted to hurt my mom and I wanted to please God with my life.
Mom, you know I've always been an early riser. But mom, did you know sometimes I'd wake up early and just watch you as you sat on the big salmon sofa and read your Bible and pray.  Did you know sometimes I would get up after you tucked me in bed, I'd creep outside your bedroom door and I would quietly listen to you and dad discuss about different areas in my life that I needed to work on.  I'd hear you guys talk about your goals for me and what you'd do to hep make me a better person.  I heard for you pray for me mom...and that made a difference.
So mom, on this Mother's Day.  I want to let you know that all those little things you did. I noticed...and they made all the difference..

I love you with all my heart.
Happy Mother's Day!

  1. Brooke, I am so proud of you and the little woman you have become. I never felt sad for having three daughters. Your father and I always felt we were lucky, and thanked God for the priviledge to have the opportunity to help mold and train all three of our little girls into the beautiful little women that they are today. Your post bought tears to my eyes again, but happy ones. You have exceeded in making me proud! ~Love, MOM xoxox
